Some how I missed the reading update in April - but over the Easter long weekend I did finish reading Geraldine Brooks' Year of Wonder! It was a really wonderful story - and told beautifully, and of course the historical aspect was really interesting. I think Brooks did an excellent job of writing in a voice that makes the reader feel transported to that time - I really felt like I experienced a bit of life in the 1600s.
I highly recommend having a look, if you haven't read it yet - and if you have I'd love to hear what you thought too! =)
This month I'm getting a start on another book that's been on my shelf for ages - and also via my mum's bookclub (It's a favourite there - I believe new members have to read it to join =)) - Donna Tartt's The Secret History.
I'd love to hear what you've been reading! Leave a comment, or a link if you post on your blog, to join our bloggy book club for May!!
Enjoy your reading!!

I just loved the Year of Wonder. I have read all of her books, I think there is a new one coming out soon!!
ReplyDeleteLove Geraldine Brooks, and am reading her new one now. I will do my post today. I will also check out The Secret History - must be good.
ReplyDeleteLiked Year of Wonders but thought she overdid the feminism in the historical context. Some excellent stuff in it though. People of the Book is better, I thought, but maybe that is because I knew less of the historical context so could not be so picky!! I believe her new book has just come out.
ReplyDeleteI read The Secret History many years ago when it first came out and loved it. Reread it a couple of years ago and still thought it was rather marvellous.
Sorry I dropped out of reporting on what I was reading, everything got a bit much for some time. But it's still fun to read about other people :)
I wanna play bloggie book club too! Does it matter if i'm not krafty or kuka?
ReplyDeleteThe Secret History it is a great book. Did you finished it? Anyway I recommend this book to all, it is impossible not to like it!
