A seedy adventure

So, this isn't new new news, but I want to bore catch you up on what's happening in my garden =)

I may have mentioned, but perhaps not shown, that we have a greenhouse in our front yard - just outside the loungeroom window. Taadaa:

Obviously, it's quite large. Way larger than novice gardeners like the Boy and myself could hope to fill.
Over the past year or so I've really enjoyed following Bells' vegie gardening journey through her blog, so rather than let our space go to waste we invited Bells and Sean to share with us.

Bells and Sean live fairly close by, which is handy, and it's win-win - they can get some vegies going early, and we can learn from someone who knows something about what they're doing =)
And it's a good excuse to have friends over ;)

As I blogged at the time, we had an excellent day of gardening (followed by footy!!), Bells and I planting a whole bunch of seeds, including coriander, basil, oregano, lettuce, eggplant, capsicum, several types of tomato, and a variety of flower seeds, while the boys chatted about home brew.

It was really exciting planting all these different seeds - it's hard to believe you'll end up with anything but dirt, and it's always amazing to think that an entire plant grows out of that teeny tiny speck of a seed!

It's a bit silly, but I was really quite nervous about doing every just right and worried that nothing would work.

Of course, the most difficult thing has been narrowing down what I want to plant (which I have done a very poor job of!) and, since then, waiting for something to emerge from the soil! ;o)

This weekend has been such a welcome break - I seem to have picked up this chesty business that's knocked everyone on their butt lately.
Friday was pretty nasty but I've felt much better over the weekend - just a bit coughy and sinusy. Hopefully there's no relapse tomorrow - I hate taking sick leave (well, I hate needing to take it - I'd rather take mental health leave! ;o))

Oh and the weather yesterday!
We breakfasted on the patio with our little friend Fuzznuts, before heading spending the day will friends enjoying the sunshine.

Then, last night, the weather was absolutely wild!
We woke to heavy rain, thunder, lightening and even hail.

Next weekend should hit mid-20s too - is it wrong that it's Sunday night and I already can't wait for the weekend?

  6. I'm very jealous of your glasshouse! I dream of the day when I have a house with a big backyard, so I can get some of my veggie patch started in a greenhouse.

I hope you get a good crop!

  7. ooh, a greenhouse of your very own! Jealous! I'm reading lots of grow your own veggies info right now before getting my hands on my very own patch of dirt in Lyneham next month. What's good to plant in November/December?

P.S. Congrats on the result last night. I think you guys are in with a shot against Geelong.
