My Creative Space

My creative space is a COMPLETE DISASTER at the moment!!!

Now, I'm all for working in the midst of controlled chaos, but all this clutter has left no space for ANY creativity!

So, this weekend the plan is OPERATION CRAFTY CLEAN-UP!!

I was home from work today (we were getting a quote for some shower repairs. eeeek again!), and I just couldn't resist a bit of creation in the kitchen too ;o)
AND maybe you can see in the background there, my main creative space this week was the laundry - I now have 4 less loads to do on the weekend!

As always, you can see other (tidier) creative spaces over here =)

Terribly Happy

Last night we popped along to the cinema for the third and final installment of our Nordic Film Festival experience: another Danish film - Frygtelig Lykkelig (Terribly Happy).

I have seen a couple of reviews describing this film as 'Coen brothers-esque'. I have to admit I'm not super familiar with the work of the Coen brothers, so I couldn't say whether or not that's a good assessment but I can tell you one thing: this film is HILARIOUS (in a dark quirky kind of way, but hilarious none the less).

We have had so much fun spending a couple of hours in Northern Europe this week that we're totally inspired to have a few movies nights at home, re-watching the dozen or so Danish films I have on DVD.

And we're hoping to have the chance to indulge more of the same if the festival is back next year! =)

ps. if you're in Melbourne it's not too late! Check out the screening times here!

pinwheel pins!

Hurray - yesterday was Brown Owls day!!!
We had a lovely afternoon - it was warmer and much less rainy-gloomy than we expected, so we could crafty away with the doors open and an uninterrupted view across to the wisteria which in full bloom in Canberra at the moment.

Whilst we usually work on something together, this month we had a BYO craft - and it was so much fun to see what everyone was making!

I used this tutorial from Little Jenny Wren to make the cutest pair of pinwheel brooches, using fabric scraps.

The ones in the tutorial are stitched onto bobby pins for little girls' hair - aren't they a good idea?!
And SO QUICK - I finished these two with plenty of time to spare! =)

Next month we're going to try our hands at applique! =)

Nordic Film Festival

This weekend the Nordic Film Festival is showing in Canberra - two films from each Denmark, Norway, Finland and Sweden.

Naturally I was super keen to see the Danish films, and who could resist a film about Eurovision (even if it is Swedish ;o))?!

So today we spent the afternoon at the cinema seeing two festival films - Once in a Lifetime and Flammen & Citronen.

Once in a Lifetime was really funny, and a bit sad too. The same director, Susanne Bier, worked on the danish film Efter Brylluppet (After the Wedding - which coincidentally stars ads Mikkelsen, OFDA (Our Favourite Danish Actor), who was a lead in today's other film. Oooh, and she also directed Den Eneste Ene (The One and Only), which is one of my absolute most very favourite danish films (but which I frustratingly can't find on DVD with English subtitles!). I thought it was interesting this film was chosen for screening - since it is nearly 10 years old, compared to the other mostly recent films. I was also surprised there were so few people there - I thought the Eurovision angle might get a few people in! But there are 2 more screenings to go - tomorrow and Monday afternoons - so if you're in Canberra check it out! =)

Flammen and Citronen is a story of resistance fighters in World War II Copenhagen, and isn't really the sort of thing I would usually see - I try to avoid anything that looks to heavy. But it was absolutely brilliant. The acting was amazing (of course, it does star Mads), and it was (despite the blood) lovely to look at and well shot (pardon the pun).
Unfortunately this one is finished in Canberra,as far as the Festival goes, but it is out on DVD (not sure about availability here, but I've seen it online) and if you're in Melbourne the Nordic Film Festival is headed your way next week!

Part 3 is Tuesday afternoon - I'll keep you posted! =)

September in Canberra means it's time for our flower festival - Floriade.

I go along each year, and never quite get used to how spectacular all those bright blooms look, bobbing their heads together in the breeze.

These are some of my favourite photos that I took this time 'round =)

pretty, huh? =) xo

Today I had the house to myself and spent a lovely afternoon on the couch, with knitting in hand and Bedknobs and Broomsticks on the telly, getting myself right back into the knitty swing of things.

I don't want to say just yet what it it, but I promise to share when I'm done. And the way it's flying off the needles, I don't think that will be too long =)

Very hungry

Oooh, I have lots of (not super exciting ;o)) things to share from the past month, so I might just have a couple of catch up posts with some pics to get me back into the bloggy swing =)

In September I was lucky enough to be asked to be chief in charge of a birthday cake for one of my very favourite little peeps. It was her first birthday, and my first kid's birthday cake, and I think we were both pretty pleased with it =)

My very hungry catepillar was very much inspired by this one by the very clever Coco Cake Cupcakes.

I used licorice for the legs, nose and antenae, and gummi frogs for the eyes =)
And to get that gorgeous red I used a ready-to roll fondant (Christmas red) which I picked up from the lovely girls at Style Emporium - one of my very very fave shops =)

I love making cakes! =)

Help You

Hellooo there!

I've been a busy busy bee with work and holidays and more work - things that have been keeping me away from the computer. Which is nice, but I do miss blogland too! =)

I wanted to share this clip with you that I love - it's the second single from Adrian's album Help You, which came out today - hope you enjoy =)
