project planning

I currently have a serious case of "oooh next i wanna knit that!"
even though i'm not entirely done with my wips =S

so here is some organising:
1. I'd like to try something with entrelac, maybe a scarf or a throw
2. speaking of scarves, i like this lace one
3. Football season starts here this week, and i have a footy mad sister with a b'day in April - i thought i might do Kate the kitten from the current knitty, but i the colours of her fave football team (of course, this would mean doing a trial in my fototy team colours hehe) this would also be a chance for me to try out double pointed needles)
4. A cable hoodie

hmm so much to do, so little time hehe

pic time!

Well, after working 16 out of 17 days in the past few weeks, my roster is back to normal and i have had both Wednesday and Thursday off this week yay =)

I have made progress on my veronica tote, which I am doing for project spectrum.
Its not entirely pink or red, but does have quite a bit of pink in it =)
It is coming along ok, but I have run out of the chocolate veronica so will have to pick some up today, and I have somehow managed to wonk it up, ever though it is just garter stitch =S
And it was tres tricky to photograph too

Its actually pretty embarassing how long it is taking, considering the pattern couldn't really be any simpler =S
I'm aiming to finish the knitting part (at least) this weekend, as I have few plans (besides a Iron Chef hehe)

I've also had time to pay some attention to my little balcony garden:

and to move some red from the garden to the kitchen:

Chillies! from my garden! (with some focus issues hehe - working on photographic technique)

Most of yesterday was spent on craft of another kind - make-shift curtains for the apartment.
We're on the 5th floor up, so privacy hasn't really been an issue, but now there is a hotel opening across the street and up a bit whose windows i can see into at night.
It's also nice to be able to eliminate some of the glare on the tv from the windows.
Speaking of tv, I have started watching Dead Like Me on DVD. (not sure if or when it has been on tv here...)
It's really funny and I'm really enjoying it (but not as addictive as Veronica Mars -yet)

Just as I was hanging my curtains The Boy called on his way home from work, and I had promised to show him how to make risotto, so we whipped up this Italian inspired feast of vegie risotto and grilled basil polenta

We were so full we didn't even touch the chocolate he had brought over
hmmm, i wonder if he left it around here somewhere......

Also been tweaking the blog template a bit - hope you likey =)

no new knitting

well, since i finished russel, there has been little knitting action =S
Tonight i worked on veronica, but didn't come too far....
I am addicted to online quizzes - like the blothings one!!!!
A few years ago i was really into quizilla, with a friend, but i checked it out this week and it doesn't seem cool any more! =(
I just wanna know who my celeb best fried is, and which character fromo star trek voyager i am hehe
Speaking of veronica (and addiction), i have seen all the eps i have in the house at the moment, so i have to wait for the boys to catch up so i get some new veronica action =(

In knitting news, i think i will participate in the Sexy Knitters Club KAL, but i haven't decided which project yet.... - i liked tubey and the cardigan best - but i think i will knit the somewhat cowl =)

Another project i am considering is mariah

looks cute.....(did i mention i haven't done any cable before, and have no idea what most of the chart means =S) hehe

enough for now, but i have some pictures to post, probably on wednesday =)

another veronica

Another veronica blog - this time its Veronica Mars =)
I LOVE this show!!!!
It hasn't been shown much respect on tv here, so we have been watching dvd from the States.
Logan is soooo hotter than Duncan - he and Veronica should totally get back together (no spoilers please! heheh)
Now if i could only churn through the knitting as quickly hehe
I'm back on the vest, nearly done with the ribbing.....

and now for something fun from blogthings .....

You Are a Frappacino

At your best, you are: fun loving, sweet, and modern

At your worst, you are: childish and over indulgent

You drink coffee when: you're craving something sweet

Your caffeine addiction level: low

pretty much right, although i'd rate my caffeine addiction level much higher hehe

done =)

yay, here's my first FO to post =)

Here it is on Monday night:

And now the finished product - a tote for my sister:

oooh, and again:

I hope she likes it!
Her fave football team wear blue with a red V in the top, so that was the idea with the colours.
I'm calling it Russell, after a favourite player from said team:

It is also my first knit project spectrum project! =D

I really enjoyed knitting this yarn, though i'm not exactly sure what it is...
its german, i think, and called Gerda. It is a wool/acrylic mix (i know - some people are anti-acrylic, but i think if it feels good....) and gives about 67m to 100g.
It knit up really quick and spongey on 8mm needles, and i would love to find something like this for my next project.
I would really like to knit a zip front ribbed cardy, but i can't find pattern i love.
I am thinking of customising patterns i have found, but this will be my first sweater/cardy type garment so i am a bit nervous =s

anyway, off to pattern search =)

Hurrah - I got me a digi camera!!!
So lots of pics on the way!
No knitting new though - last night there was a free concert in the local park, so The Boy and i took a picnic and went to check it out. (check out the picnic):

There were fireworks too:

and here is my pink flower pic for project spectrum:

Yay =)
off to watch desperate housewives and work on my sister's veronica - pics to come =p

busy....... =S

woooooooooh what a week =S
Today was my 7th day at work in a row argh!
And its gonna be wednesday or thursday before I get a day off! zzzzzzzzzzzzzz exhausting!
For now I'm finishing off a (large) bag of m&ms and watching Desperate Housewives, which I taped on monday and haven't had a chance to watch since then.
Then I'll be spending the evening home alone with a bottle of wine, iron chef and my knitting (not necessarily in that order hehe)
I am still working on Veronica, but have sort of put it to the side(argh)to knit a Veronica for my sister whose birthday it is tomorrow.
I'm knitting it in blue and red, the colours worn by her favourite (Australian Rules) Football team =)
I was hoping to finish mine first to see if it would work out nice but I ran out of time, so now i'm knitting furiously to try and finish so I can send it to her on monday or tuesday.
Now I'm off to make me some nachos!

more on veronica... and some food

Here i am, about 4 hours into Veronica (including preparation of a great lemon risotto - check out my recipe below!), and as i expected it's been super satisfying already. I have almost 30cm (about 11 inches)so I am over a third of the way through. The use of 10mm instead of 9mm has given me an extra 5cm (2 inches) or so in width. This is ok, but i am a bit worried that i'll run out of the veronica yarn (this was the more expensive at about $6 for a ball of 100grams which is reasonable, but i don't want to buy whole new ball just for a couple of metres) so I think I'll cut the yarn for the handles and tassles now and size the bag according to how much yarn i have.

I made my best risotto ever tonight - lemon and pea flavoured - here's how:

Fry 1 small onion (or some leek)with 2 cloves of garlic in 2 tablespoons of olive oil until soft, but not brown.
Add 2 cups of aborio rice, and stir until rice is coated with oil.
The traditional rule of risotto is to stir all the time, but I prefer to shake and swirl the pan instead, stirring can damage the rice and make the risotto gluggy.
Add 1 cup (250ml) of white wine, swirl until absorbed.
Now I start to add 2 litres of chicken stock, but just a soup ladle full at a time.
Swirl the pan after each addition, adding more stock only once previous is all absorbed. (I keep the stock simmering in a pan next to the risotto)
When there is about 2 ladles of soup left to add, i like to throw in some vegies - tonight I added about 1 cup of frozen peas.
After adding the last of the stock stir through some creme fraiche or cream, some butter, some parmesan cheese and the zest of a lemon.
Taa daa ready mmmmmm
I love risotto because it is so impressive, but pretty easy and all you need to have in the house to make it is rice and stock, then you can just add whatever flavours you like =)
Bon appetit!

Hurrah - today I bought some new yarn for my first project spectrum knitted project =)
I'm going to make the Veronica Tote (its at the very bottom in the right-hand corner) from Lincraft.
I am using the Veronica yarn, in chocolate brown, with printed Flutter, which changes between pastel shades of pink, purple, blue and yellow.
It should be an easy quick satisfying knit, its just a long rectangle of garter stitch sewn up to make a tote.
In the pattern they say to use 9mm needles - I have 10mm and 8mm but not 9mm, so I am going for the 10s, the knit should still be tight enough for the yarn.
Off to cast on.....

project spectrum - pink =)

So, I have made some progress on the vest, i knitted til 1am on Sunday and now have about an inch on the needles =)
It's not much, but enough to see the rib pattern so still satisfying!
It is going super slow, but i am sure once i get past the rib it will all happen much quicker.

I've been pretty busy, today was my fifth day in a row at work - I usually have wednesday and thursday off, but i am working again tomorrow (wednesday) because one of the other girls is sick. I was looking forward to having a day off, relaxing, knitting and watching Oprah, but it is good to have the extra work because i am hoping to get a digital camera really soon, and i can put the extra days pay towards it.

Oh, project spectrum! I am going to participate in project spectrum, and am really excitd because pink is my fave!! (well, probably blue, but i really really really like pink too =p )

So, my first pink project is this blog!
Then I am going to fix my pink Louis Vuitton bag =)
Can't wait to get a camera to post some pics!

besos =)

Ok, so here I am trying to edit my blog format....
I can change all the colours and stuff, but these two fat blocks of dark pink down the side are way thicker than i want. I have tried everything but can't get them to thin out =S
And all the ones i preview don't look this wide until i apply it to my own blog aaarrgghhhhh
well, i guess i'll figure it out

Ready (or not?)

Ok, wow, this is kind of daunting. I've seen so many great blogs and I want mine to be cute and fun, but really know very little about how to do this, so I'm just gonna start and hope my blog will grow and evolve as I do.
Unfortunately, my kntting news is starting with a frog.

I have knit heaps of gloves and scarves and even a bikini before, but have decided it's time to move on to a larger garment. I saw a really cute vest that I have decided to try.

I bought new circular needles, some cheapish yarn, made myself a cute beaded stitch marker/row counter and was ready to go.
The vest is knit from the bottom up to the armhole then split and back and front finished seperately. The rib in the bottom is knit double strand. I haven't knitted double strand before so I google. Hmm looks complicated. Maybe I'll just do regular rib and try double strand next time. Cast on 144. I got to the 5th row then decided if I was gonna knit I wasn't gonna do it half arsed. Gribiiiiiiit.

So now I have my new circulars, my cheapish yarn, my cute beaded stitch marker/row counter and I'm ready to go. Again. :p

A bit more about me and what I hope this blog will be. I love crafting! My mum has always been great at lots of different crafts, and it was always encouraged at home. I love to knit, sew (hoping for a sewing maching for my birthday in April!!!!) make beaded jewelry (mostly earings), cross/long stitch, garden and bake. The main problem in my crafting careers has always been that I start lots of projects and never finish, so I'm hoping that by sharing my progress with others I'll be more likely to finish. So hopefully I'll be keeping you posted on what's happening in all these areas of my life =)

Here I go, I'm starting a blog!

Whilst surfing the web, browsing for free knitting patterns, I stumbled across a fabulous community of knitting blogs. Which got me thinking. So here I go.......
