Where a Girl Goes for High Tea

Last Thursday my sister organised for us to have high tea with two of my aunts at Cristina Re's Where a Girl Goes in Melbourne.

We had the sweet high tea - it was absolutely delicious and so beautiful! Look at the colours of those cuppies and macarons (I think the chocolate ones were my favourite - amazing!)

As well as being a perfect way to pass an afternoon, our visit has me totally inspired to make a batch or two of macarons myself (I haven't made them for AGES!) and to have a play with some gorgeous papers like the ones they had in store (especially since my sister bought my this lovely paper punch for my birthday! So pretty!)

Quick 5 :: blog hop

I'm running a bit behind this week (I think it was the extended footy round that threw me off!!), but I couldn't let this week's quick 5 theme - 5 newest favourite blogs on your must-read list - go by without posting mine!

Cushion & Cake - Pamela is preparing to open her own tea room and has been blogging her plans and inspiration since last April. Yesterday she announced her opening date - next Saturday - and I can't wait to see how it goes!

17 and Baking - Elissa is 19 and is an incredibly talented photographer/baker/writer - I love popping over to see what she's been cooking up, though to be honest I can't decide whether it's the food, photos or gorgeous writing that keeps me coming back!

Gnome Angel - Hi Angie! I love reading the Gnome Angel blog - the posts are frequent and cover diverse subjects, so I always feel like I'm discovering something new. Plus there are loads of links to follow for crafty (and shopping!) inspiration =)

Hey there Alice - I have been friends with Jo for a few years now after meeting through Brown Owls. Her blog is almost brand new, but is just lovely! I am loving reading about Jo's seasonal quilts - and am totally inspired to try something similar myself!

zilredloh - I think I first came across Liz's blog when I was checking out some of the gorgeous coats that were sewn up during Gertie's Lady Grey sew-along (Liz's is here - isn't it lovely?)
I love visiting zilredloh on account of the warm and friendly writing, beautiful stitching and the fact that Liz is just about the cutest sewer I think I have ever come across on a sewing blog!

Pop over to Gnome Angel if you'd like to share the your latest top 5 must-read blogs!! =)

ps. photos from my Mum & Dad's garden on the weekend - we had the most beautiful weather, and everything looks incredibly lush with all the rain they had over summer!

It was my birthday yesterday!

Big thanks to all my family and friends who sent happy birthday wishes, and helped make my weekend super special and fun!

you card!

In case there is still any doubt that we've gone completely bunny mad here, there are cards too:

I cut out the bunnies from this template, and did the stamping on the inside with my new stamps

I just love a daggy pun! =)

more bunnies

this time of the marshmallow variety...

I used this tutorial to make around a dozen of these to pop on top of the cupcakes I took in to work today.

They were pretty easy, and super cute - don't you think?

I'm not generally one to decorate the house for a season (apart from Christmas, natch), but the past week or two I've been so inspired by lovely spring/eastery mantel pieces etc I've seen about on blogs from the northern hemisphere that last week I found myself at Bed Bath and Table buying ceramic bunnies (I know, honestly!)

After a little photo shoot, I've popped them up in a nice Easter-inspired scene on a bookshelf in loungeroom...

Creative Collective

Have you met the creative collective? You can read all about it here, but basically the creative collective is like a virtual craft group where everyone is invited to share something they've created, in any medium, inspired by a nominated theme.
This month's theme is Easter and the blog has been full of gorgeous eggy and bunny(y) inspiration - so much so that I just couldn't stand it any more and simply HAD to join in!

I'm starting off with something chocolatey! I've been absolutely obsessed lately with chocolatey sweet/salty desserts. I think it started with salted caramel recipes seeming to pop-up all over the place, then chocolate dipped pretzels with peanut butter sandwiched in between. I thought the peanut butter was a bit over the top, but when I ran out of pretzels before the melted chocolate was used up, and I had left over fried noodles from last weekend's mouse bikkies, I decided to mix up a batch of 'spiders' according to the recipe on the back of the noodle packet.

They were gone before I could photograph them, so this arvo I whipped up two batches of 'nests'- one with white chocolate and the other with dark - with mini jellybean or mini m&m 'eggs'. Although the white chocolate ones look a bit odd, they are BOTH delicious - I think the m&ms are better than the jelly beans though!
If you're interested, the 'recipe' (as well as being on the noodle packet) can be found here.

Hop back for some more Eastery projects during the week!

Have you seen this bag?

One of Nikki's lovely sample bags was stolen from her stand at the ACQ today =(

Pop over to Nikki's or Cam's blogs to see if you can help them find it!

Prins Vincent & Prinsesse Josephine

I'm sure by now everyone has caught up on the latest Danish Royal news, but I'm posting about it anyway!

Image from here

The royal twins were christened on Thursday:
Vincent Frederik Minik Alexander and Josephine Sophia Ivalo Mathilda.

I watched live on the Internet, first with the stream provided by DR and then (when DR crashed under the pressure) through a Swedish news site.
It is just so nice to be able to follow an event live like that all the way from the other side of the world - I love the Internets!!

The gorgeous official photos from the christening are available on the Crown Prince pair's website, and there are loads of lovely pics from the event here.

It is an exciting few days for the Danish Royal family, with the christening just a few days before Queen Margrethe's 71st birthday, which is today, and Princess Isabella's birthday next Thursday.

Also on the topic of the Danish Royals - and I'm not quite sure how I've neglected to mention this yet - has anyone been watching along with The Kingdom - Behind the Scenes?

SBS have been showing this behind-the-scenes of the Danish Royal Family at 8pm on Friday evenings, with episodes also available to watch on the SBS website for one week after they are on tv - last night's episode (which was episode 4) is here. In case you missed the first 3, the DVD will be available from June 1.

And just one last royal tidbit - during the week I discovered a lovely newish blog dedicated to sharing news about the European royal families - The Royal Correspondent - check it if you're interested, as I am, in keeping up with what's going on in the royal houses. There is a wrap up of the christening here, and it's bound to be busy over there in the next little while, with that wedding next week, and a royal wedding in Monaco in June!

creative oink

How is it that the weeks I'm best organised with my creative space are the ones where it isn't on? Haha

This is the latest embroidered square I'm working on for my Alicia Paulson Country Time Quilt

I do love my disappearing marker, but the thing is it always disappears before I get the embroidery done! haha

I'm planning on taking this little project with me when I head to mum & dad's for the Easter weekend, so hopefully in a little over a week I'll have 6 finished farm animals! =)

a plague!

I made these guys to take to Brown Owls on the weekend, using a recipe from Dita von Teese (!!), found here

The photos are pretty crap, but the biscuits tasted ace...

...and they were pretty darn cute - even if I do say so myself!

Quick 5 :: Favourite Movies You Own

Ange's quick five challenge this week is to share 5 movies you love that you own.

This was trickier than I expected - I felt like we mostly have tv series on DVD rather than films, but I could have named 5 Kirsten Dunst movies* I love that I own, let along having to choose from our whole collection!

Here's what I came up with:

Bring It On and 10 Things I Hate About You - I LOVE teen movies, and these are probably two of the very best out there.

Romeo and Juliet - Really very nearly a teen movie too! I was obsessed with Romeo and Juliet as a teenager (I had pictures of Leo from the masked party scene all over my school books!) and I think it is really beautifully shot and just lovely to watch.

Crackers - An Australian Christmas film, I think Crackers is hilarious. I had to include it because I am so excited to have got my hands on the DVD after searching for it for a couple of years.

Italiensk for Begyndere (Italian for Beginners) - I have quite a few Danish films on DVD, but this is probably my very favourite. It is classic funny but sad Danish Dogma film at its best. (It is also not too hard to find in stores, if you're interested!)

Oooh, that was tricky Ange!! I had at least 5 more I wanted to include, and I didn't even include the Star Wars trilogy which are my absolute favourite most loved films of all time ever, and we own several different copies of, so it goes without saying!

I'd love to hear everyone else's favourite movies that you own - pop over to GnomeAngel to share them with us!!

*fyi they would be Bring It On, Get Over It, Marie Antoinette, Virgin Suicides and Drop Dead Gorgeous ;o)

Quick 5 :: Weekend Interests

Angie over at Gnomeangel posted today about a new bloggy meme. This weekend the theme is 'weekend interests' - Angie is asking us to share 5 things you've done this weekend or love to do on your weekends. Of course I couldn't resist her invite to join in! =)

So, here are 5 shots capturing my weekend (in the random order blogger decided to show them!)...

1) New mug
I picked this up yesterday when we went to check out the new shops at our local mall. I do spend most of the weekend with my face in a mug of coffee, so I guess this represents that too haha

2) Crafty stuff
I haven't touched the sewing machine this weekend, but I am making progress on the farm yard quilt from Alicia Paulson's Embroidery Companion, which I started at Brown Owls back in February

3) Furry friends

there's no point trying to kid ourselves - these guys run the house, weekend or no. This is only half the team, but it is almost impossible to get the two of them in frame together, and Max felt most like playing along today.

I have been doing a bit more sorting through holiday photos - it's so hard to know where to start! I also let my inner Yorkie out with some baking yesterday arvo.

And as is the case every week, our activities this weekend were planned around being home for both our teams' games this arvo, as well as the new boys first run last night. The bombers have just gone down at the last minute in a very tight one, so things are a bit tense just now... here's hoping my Hawks can do better!!

If you'd like to join in with your quick 5 pop over to Gnomeangel and add your link to the list!
Thanks Angie for hosting - and see you next week! =)

Me-Made-March wrap up!

March is all over (two days ago! April already!!! Really?) and I am excited to report I managed to stick to my goal of wearing something me-made every day for the whole month!!!

It was actually easier than I thought - except on those days where I didn't leave the house at all, and would usually just hang about in my pjs or trackies. Seeing so many lovely flannels appearing in the fabric shops in the past few weeks I'm actually thinking I might whip up a couple of pair of pj pants for myself anyway!

It was also more fun than I expected - I really enjoyed 'meeting' other sewers over at the flickr group, and came away with loads of new inspiration every day. And let's face it - it's always nice to get compliments from like minded people! =)

Maybe the most fun bit was doing something like this with a friend - Michelle and I texted each other pics of our outfits every morning, and it was nice to be in touch with her every morning like that, to check out new bits of sewing or accessories, and have a bit of a laugh about the faces we made in some of the pics! However, like her husband, I think my guy was sick of taking pics of me every morning too haha!!

Here are the pics - click on the date underneath to see the pics bigger over at flickr.

Me-Made-March 2011
1. March 1, 2. March 2, 3. March 3, 4. March 4,
5. March 5, 6. March 6, 7. March 7, 8. March 8,
9. March 9, 10. March 10, 11. March 11, 12. March 12,
13. March 13, 14. March 14, 15. March 15, 16. March 16,
17. March 17, 18. March 18, 19. March 19, 20. March 20,
21. March 21, 22. March 22, 23. March 23, 24. March 24,
25. March 25, 26. March 26, 27. March 27, 28. March 28,
29. March 29, 30. March 30, 31. March 31

I wore a skirt and cardigan nearly every single day in March. Actually, at the moment I'm ok with never wearing pants again (except for lounging about at home, I mean!) especially now that I have a few pairs of lovely boots to wear with skirts! I've spent years trying to find pants that fit me nicely, and I am completely over it. During my holiday there were very few days where I wore something a skirt and tights with boots, and if I can do it in wintry Europe, I'm not worried about being to cold here! Plus skirts are so easy to sew that I feel like I can dress more like me! =)

I'm thinking about continuing to have a regular me made day, maybe weekly - I do still have that skirt cut out and not quite sewn up yet, so hopefully you'll see that soon! =)
